Huawei is Making its own GPU and Memory Chips – Rumor
After developing their own chipset, a report from a Chinese website states that Huawei is making its own GPU and Memory Chips. Huawei is the third largest-smartphone manufacturer, after-all. There were also news going around that Huawei is also working on their own operating system named KirinOS since three years. The only problem holding them back from leaving Android is that their KirinOS doesn’t have a vast app count.
Talking about the flash memory chips, reports say that Huawei is partnering up with renowned manufacturers like Samsung, Hynix and Micron Technology to develop the flash memory modules for them. If Huawei is going to make their own GPU & memory, that would be very beneficial as they will be able to optimize their hardware with the software very well. As for the KirinOS, we think that will take a couple of years.
The report from China did not mention when we will see Huawei making their own GPUs and flash memory chips although this might take some time. The probability for the next high-end phone from Huawei will be the Huawei P9, the successor to the Huawei P8, which was released in April. However, these GPUs and memory modules will take some good amount of time for testing before they can be used in an actual device.
And yeah, this is a rumor, so you should take it with a grain of salt.
